Hike for ALS and Family Day

The ALS Society of Ontario invites you to join us at the 2009 Hike for ALS and Family Day at the Kortright Centre in Woodbridge. We're taking to the trails to raise money for equipment and support services for people with ALS, as well as research for a cure or effective treatment. The day begins at 9 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m. and includes a variety of great activities for children and adults including jumping castles, face painting, balloon pop, clowns, putting contest, massage centre, Argos kick and throw game, pony rides, games, a barbecue lunch and much more. There also be a live auction and raffle with many fantastic prizes. You can play all day and have lunch for only $10.00 per car! On-site donations in support of ALS would be greatly appreciated. You can also download pledge forms at the website. ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease, is a fatal and rapidly progressive neuromuscular disease that robs people of the ability to move, speak and breathe. The ALS Society of Ontario is a charitable organization that provides essential medical equipment and support services to people with ALS and their families, and helps fund the national society's research programs.

Vaughan's 20-Minute Makeover is back!

On Friday, April 15, 2011, the City of Vaughan is asking you to do your part – stop everything and do a 20-minute clean up outside your office, school or in your neighbourhood. Doing your own 20-Minute Makeover is a great way to celebrate Earth Day.

Large groups and schools can also register for Vaughan's 20-Minute Makeover by downloading a registration form below. For more information, please call 905-832-8521, ext. 8426.

Please note: In our continuing efforts to reduce waste, small litter bags will not be provided this year. The City will continue to provide large bags and gloves.

Greening Vaughan Environmental Days provide an excellent opportunity for you to have a share in saving the environment. The following are a few ways in which you can contribute in helping to keep Vaughan Green:

Mulch Giveaway – Bring reusable containers and receive FREE mulch (3 bag / container limit per vehicle).

Blue Box and Green Bin Sales – Purchase blue boxes, green bins, kitchen containers and backyard composters. Residents may also bring in their damaged City-issued blue boxes and green bins for a ‘no charge’ replacement.

*NOTE: Mulch must remain within the boundaries for residents residing in the Asian Long Horned Beetle (ALHB) regulated area. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) have identified the ALHB regulated area to be delineated by Hwy 27 to the West; Rutherford Road to the North; Dufferin Street to the East; Steeles Avenue to the South.
