Breaking and Entering By Vin Morreale Jr.
Theatre in Port

This play will steal your heart with a generous mix of larceny, love and laughter. A charming con man breaks into what he thinks is an empty apartment only to find a mysterious woman waiting for him. Despite his outlandish stories, she always seems two steps ahead of him. Just when we figure out what is really going on, a middle-aged man enters with a remote control, heart-strewn boxer shorts, and the same name as the mysterious woman! The best-laid plans collapse into felonious fun when a love-struck neighbor completes the ensemble.

The Rocky Horror Show by Richard O'Brien
Theatre in Port

The cult-classic returns for our fifth run. The story of two clean cut kids, Brad Majors and Janet Weiss, who run into car trouble and seek help at the site of light down the road. Little do they know it's coming from the place where Dr. Frank N Furter is in the midst of his maniacal experiments. Crow's Theatre - I, Claudia
David S. Howes Theatre

This extraordinary one-woman show, written by Kristen Thompson, maps the raw but beautiful interior life of a misfit adolescent. Claudia, age twelve-and-three-quarters, finds herself suffering from the triple afflictions of puberty, unpopularity and her parents' divorce. Using four astonishingly expressive masks, actress Michelle Pollack evokes the anguished Claudia, her grandfather, her dad's new girlfriend and the school janitor. Both heartbreakingly sad and wrenchingly funny, I, Claudia casts a spell of rare power in the theatre that is not to be missed.

Opening to rave reviews in 2002, this Dora Mavor and Sterling award-winning play was made into a movie featured on CBC’s Opening Night and at the Toronto International Film Festival.

November 19 at 7:30 p.m.
Toronto Dance Theatre - Severe Clear
David S. Howes Theatre

Inspired by a once-in-a-lifetime wilderness journey in Canada’s Yukon, Artistic Director Christopher House’s Severe Clear is a cool, urban response to the wild beauty of the northern landscape. Whimsical, spontaneous and deeply spiritual, Severe Clear evokes the feelings, stories and astounding physicality of the mythical North.

Celebrating its tenth anniversary, Severe Clear , features dancers morphing into animals and back into humans, with movement ranging from frisky leaps to gloriously sustained adagio. Risky partnering is effortlessly performed and moods range from joyous to serene, from playful to profound.

Ballet Jörgen - The Nutcracker, A Canadian Tradition
David S. Howes Theatre

Ballet Jörgen's recently revamped version of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker draws its inspiration from the paintings of Canada's Group of Seven artists like Tom Thomson, A. Y. Jackson and Lawren Harris, to create a wonderfully enchanting world of Arcadian delight. This classic piece of choreography and music is a seasonal favourite around the world, but this version has a distinctly Canadian flavour that reminds of Algonquin woods and frozen lakes with abundant animals. With beautiful costumes, exquisite backgrounds, great dancing and some of the most distinctly recognizable music of all time, this production is designed for you and your family as you settle into the coming holiday season.

February 29 at 7:30 p.m.
The Improvised Shakespeare Company
Sean O Sullivan Theatre

The Improvised Shakespeare Company will ask the audience for a play title at the beginning of their show. Once chosen, hilarity ensues as these amazing improv actors create an entire play with characters, asides, intrigue, plot twists, romance, comedy and sword fights delivered in rhyming couplets worthy of the Bard himself. That’s right, there is nothing written down or plotted out before the show and each and every one of their performances is different.

The skill and humour of these improvisational performers have won them legions of fans wherever they perform because it is almost impossible to believe that they are just making it up. With rave reviews and performances at comedy festivals such as Montreal’s prestigious Just For Laughs Festival, this unique troupe brings a distinctive brand of humour that pays tribute to Shakespeare’s genius while delighting audiences. Do not miss a chance to have so much fun watching something develop out of nothing (except a title, of course).

The 605 Collective - Audible

David S. Howes Theatre

The Vancouver-based 605 Collective are establishing their place in the Canadian dance community as an innovative group that is defining an emergent choreographic vocabulary based on hip-hop, ballet, jazz, contact improv and contemporary dance movement. Audible is a full length piece of collective dance choreography set to electronic music and industrial soundscapes which explores the increasingly digital qualities of human relationships defined in terms of speed, friends, texts and tweets.

The dancers propel their bodies through space at lightning speed in bursts of frenetic activity that mimic the transmission of digital information, which are bookended by brief periods of lyrical quiet and subtle movement evoking the silence so often missing in our digital days. Unplug from your network, turn off your phone and come watch a group of talented dance artists use their bodies to tell you about what you are missing.

March 28 at 7:30 p.m.
Volcano Theatre - Goodness
Sean O Sullivan Theatre

Acclaimed Canadian writer and playwright Michael Redhill’s Goodness weaves a narrative through time and space which considers genocide and its aftermath, the questions of good and evil and revenge. Through considering Redhill’s Jewish ancestry and the Holocaust, the play unravels tensions through considering a more recent and “unnamed” genocide. A female character’s understanding of genocide in her own country is troubled by the man she guards who, though a suspected mass murderer in the past, has apparently descended into the storm of Alzheimer’s. With questions of prejudice, blame, justice and morality hanging in the balance, the award-winning cast of characters under the direction of Ross Manson and a background of music from around the world weave Redhill’s language into a complexly layered consideration of human nature.

India Jazz Suites

Sean O Sullivan Theatre

At first glance, traditional Kathak dancer Pandit Chitresh Das and New York-based tap dancer Jason Samuels Smith are an unlikely pair, but the second these dancers bring their virtuoso footwork onto the stage, you will feel that they are rhythmic twins.

Chitresh Das is a 67 year old master of the traditional Indian Kathak dancing style where he dances barefoot with up to three pounds of bells on each leg. Smith, on the other hand, is a 31 year old Emmy-award winning dance performer and choreographer from New York who is known for his fast footwork and uncanny tap style.

Though age, culture and training divide these artists, their deep understanding of rhythm and dance bring them together in a powerful and transformative way. Their collaborative energy, skill and improvisation set to live music is a spectacle that will have you gasping for breath in excitement.
