The Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton (CCAH) in partnership with the Oakville Museum welcome you to this unique opportunity to enjoy music, dance and story-telling...
The "Roots of Freedom Festival" is a two-day event held in Oakville, building upon local Black history and heritage.
The Festival:
- includes artists, volunteers, local resources, and citizens from various sectors of Oakville and the Region of Halton.
- involves participants from the education community, community organizations, members of the community - from Oakville, Halton Region, and beyond.
- complements and builds upon the mandate, role and past activities of the Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton (CCAH).
- focuses on local Black history and heritage within the context of the diaspora and impact of slavery -- an important part of Halton's history that many are unaware of.
- provides facilitated opportunities to integrate Black history into school curicula.
Benefits to the community:
- better knowledge of the slave trade, its impact and legacy, while generating pride and awareness of the contributions of the early Black community who settled in Oakville via the Underground Railroad.
- heightened awareness of the Oakville Museum's Black History exhibits, the Underground Railroad, within and beyond the Halton Region.
- appreciation for the talented local writers and performing artists who use traditional art forms to address contemporay issues.
- greater pride and self-awareness for Black youth who become informed about the history of Halton's Black community and its relevance today.
- harmony and inclusiveness among all members of Halton's community.

9:00 a.m. at The Towne Square, Downtown Oakville hosts a kick-off pancake breakfast. This
is a great day to bring the kids downtown to enjoy an afternoon hayride, face painting and
fresh-shucked corn on the cob. The most special part of Fall Festival is the kick-off to
this season's A Taste of Downtown Oakville with a day of appreciation of

Autumnfest & Giant Sidewalk Sale
Bronte VillageCome out and celebrate the
arrival of the fall harvest season with a twist! Enjoy the crisp autumn air and the
colours of fall in picturesque Bronte Harbour Village by the Lake on Saturday, September
24. Lakeshore Rd. W. will be closed between Bronte Rd. and East Street.
Bring walking shoes, folding chairs, and the family down for a FREE, fun-filled fall day
of activities, food, fun and music for all ages, no admission charge.
- The Lions Club will kick-start the day with their famous
pancake breakfast on the street, from 8-11am.
- The focal point of the day is the GIANT SIDEWALK SALE 10
6pm.
- Visit the friendly merchants and service providers and
shop for end of summer bargains, fall or pre-Christmas treasures. Bronte is the shopping
and dining center of West Oakville.
- FREE entertainment and kids' activities are scheduled
between 11am. and 2:30 pm.
- Music will be provided on several staging areas by various
performers including those from CJ's Café in Bronte, Retro Rock Lounge and others to
be announced.
- Bronte special events wouldn't be complete without
the much-beloved and traditional Horse and Wagon Rides.
- Other autumn-themed kid's activities will be
available including inflatables at a small fee per child.
- A display of classic cars will line Lakeshore Rd. Visit
and talk to the proud owners.
- Come to Bronte and enjoy the atmosphere, a day by the lake
and enjoy family fun and entertainment.
