      Located in the heart of picturesque Niagara-on-the-Lake, the Angie Strauss Art Gallery is one of the largest and most popular galleries in the area. The gallery features the work of renowned Canadian Impressionist artist Angie Strauss, who is well-known for her beautiful artwork, which portrays local scenes, vineyards, florals, and landscapes. The gallery is located in a lovingly restored 1850s Colonial home and features Strauss’ beautiful watercolour and oil paintings, as well as prints and cards.

      The Artists’ Loft features the whimsical work of artist Patricia Paquin, who creates delightful ceramic pieces. The gallery also showcases an eclectic array of fine oil and watercolour paintings and prints from several local distinguished artists. Visitors will also find many beautiful gift items including beautiful hand-painted glasses, metal-art, hand-crafted jewellery and carved wood art.
    • Doug Forsythe Gallery - 92 Picton Street

      The Doug Forsythe Gallery features the works of established Canadian artists Doug and Marsha Forsythe. The gallery showcases the artists’ eclectic array of works including: etchings, engravings, woodcuts, cancelled intaglio plates, original watercolours, oils, mixed media and prints. Many of the works feature landscapes, seascapes, and marine themes.

      This intimate gallery is housed in a beautiful historical home in Niagara-on-the-Lake and features the works of renowned Canadian artist Chantal Poulin. Poulin, who has won the award for Canadian artist of the year twice, has an incredible range in her work. Her beautiful works of art feature everything from portraits of children to landscapes, to still life and contemporary art. The King Street Gallery also features the works of other artists, including several from Quebec.

      The Pumphouse Visual Art Centre is located in a restored 1891 water pumping station on the shores of the Niagara River and offers exhibitions by contemporary visual artists working in a number mediums. The centre showcases a variety of visual art forms, from raku pottery and relief sculptures to etching, photography and paintings. The centre also offers classes, workshops, lectures and exhibitions in a wide range of mediums throughout the year.

      The Riverbrink- Samuel E. Weir Gallery houses an eclectic collection and library of unique Canadian and international historical fine art. Specializing in works that capture the history of the Niagara Region, the gallery features portraits of the area’s founders, as well as Canadian paintings, old Quebec silver, Indian artifacts, War of 1812 pieces, and French Impressionist works. Of particular interest is the impressive collection of works by the famed Canadian artists The Group of Seven and Tom Thompson, who were the first artists that depicted the beauty of Northern Canada in their art. The Gallery was built to showcase the extensive collection of barrister Samuel E. Weir, who began collecting works of art in his twenties. The gallery overlooks the battlegrounds of the War of 1812, and offers impressive views of the Niagara River.

Seeds in Disguise

A travelling exhibit from the Royal Ontario Museum and Art Installation by Deborah Carruthers at the Ball's Falls Centre for Conservation. Seeds are a key component in our lives. We use them for ornamentation, eat them and grow them into plants. This exhibit explores the biology and lore of ornamental seeds. Artist Deborah Carruthers uses natural materials in her work except for one part which she has painted. Finding the painted part makes you look closely at nature and its structures.

RiverBrink Art Museum - ART & BLOOMS

From Friday, October 21st through Sunday, October 23rd, a special partnership between RiverBrink and the Garden Club of Niagara will present ART & BLOOMS, a three day exhibition showcasing the internationally known RiverBrink Art Collection and the extraordinary talents of members of the Garden Club of Niagara. Just as artists interpret the world around them with mediums such as paint or bronze, members of the Garden Club of Niagara have been invited to artistically interpret works of art selected from RiverBrink's permanent collection, using flowers as their medium. Each floral design will be displayed next to the artwork that inspired it.

Exhibition hours will be from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on October 21, 22 and 23. Admission for the general public is $5.00 for adults, $4.00 for seniors and students, free for accompanied children under twelve. (RiverBrink and Garden Club members, free.)

Two special events are planned to complement this unique exhibition.

On Friday evening, October 21st at 7:00pm popular speaker Joan Draper will present an illustrated lecture titled "Sissinghurst: History of the Property and Evolution of the Famous Garden." Sissinghurst's garden was created in the 1930s by Vita Sackville-West, poet and gardening writer, and her husband Harold Nicolson, author and diplomat. Sissinghurst's garden is one of the best-loved in the whole of the United Kingdom, drawing visitors from all over the world. Admission for this Friday evening lecture is $15.00; (RiverBrink and Garden Club Members, $10.00.) Advance registration highly recommended. For registration, please call the museum at 905-262-4510.

On Saturday afternoon, October 22nd at 2:00pm, a floral arranging workshop with local floral designer Hilary Bellis of "It Can Be Arranged" will guide participants in making their own floral centerpieces. Participants will create a long lasting winter arrangement that can be refreshed with minimal up keep for the winter season. The workshop fee covers all materials, including the container, evergreens for a base arrangement with accents of fresh roses and berries and branches. Each person will go home with a completed project. Workshop fee: $50.00. Advance registration is required. Please register at the museum by phone (905-262-4510) or in person. Fee payable at time of registration. Mastercard and Visa accepted.

Learn how to safely heat and mix lye and how to add natural ingredients during an afternoon of hands-on soap making. Take home soap made during the workshops.

Fee: $35 per adult.
Participants should bring safety goggles, an old long-sleeved shirt, old towel and protective gloves.
