Matthew Good - Lights Of Endangered Species Tour
Hammerson Hall
The phrase “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” doesn’t apply to Matthew Good. A defining characteristic of this Canadian rock icon is exactly the opposite of that popular axiom. Over his almost two-decade career, Good has taken us on a journey. Good continually pushes forward into uncharted territory; mapping new musical landscapes most recently showcased on his latest release, Lights Of Endangered Species
Lights Of Endangered Species takes Good in an unfamiliar direction, displaying arrangements that are a distinct departure from the likes of “Born Losers” and “Last Parade.” Stark and passionate best describe Good’s latest effort. |

The Good Lovelies
RBC Theatre
Funny and upbeat, with just a pinch of sass, the Good Lovelies' textbook three-part harmonies, constant instrument swapping and witty on-stage banter have enlivened the folk music landscape since they joined forces in 2006 for their first show at Toronto's funky Gladstone Hotel.
How the Good Lovelies (Caroline Brooks, Kerri Ough and Sue Passmore) got together is a bit of a mystery: Sue remembers meeting her band mates during a limbo competition, Caroline thinks they met at a chess tournament, but Kerri is convinced they first crossed paths during a bar fight... Whatever the story may be, the ladies immediately realized they had something special, so they hit the road on a mission to charm Canadian audiences coast to coast. |

Nick Carter
Hammerson Hall
One night only! Nick Carter is taking off, both literally and figuratively, with his appropriately titled new solo album I'm Taking Off. His Canadian tour, in support of the album, according to Nick, who co-wrote every song on the record, will feature an amazing night of diverse music. "…songs about love, happiness, the sad parts of love, dance tracks." The first single, "Love Can't Wait" - co-written with Canadian pop star Shawn Desman - is an adrenalized club-banger that's half synth-laden R&B, and half classic house, with a triumphant message of love wedged somewhere in between. |

Sheesham & Lotus
RBC Theatre
Ages 3+
Something really different for music-loving kids and families! Sheesham and Lotus use hands, feet, voices, spoons, sticks, washboards, old string or wire and whatever else they can find bring to life old-time high stepping mountain music in a fun and engaging performance.
Sheesham and Lotus came together in 1998 as Teilhard Frost and Sam Allison, playing as a rhythm section in a fiddle band called Flapjack. Together for the next seven years they were on the road throughout Canada and the United states playing dances-camps, concerts and workshops. It was during this time that both Frost and Allison took a keen interest in the folk traditions of North America, particularly the American south. Both became enthusiastic historians of old-time fiddle and banjo music, learning from the old masters across the regions south of the Mason-Dixon line. Through personal instruction, perseverance and osmosis they learned harmonica, jaw-harp, flatfoot and song. |

Playing for Change
Hammerson Hall
Tickets: $25 & up
Playing for Change is a multimedia movement created to inspire, connect, and bring peace to the world through music. The idea for this project arose from a common belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. No matter whether people come from different geographic, political, economic, spiritual or ideological backgrounds, music has the universal power to transcend and unite us as one human race. And with this truth firmly fixed in our minds, we set out to share it with the world.
Musicians from different cultures uniting together for the common purpose of peace through music is a powerful statement. For the past four years Playing For Change has traveled the world with a mobile recording studio and cameras in search of such inspiration. Throughout the journey we created a family of over 100 musicians from all walks of life. We connect these musicians together with "Songs Around The World." The Playing For Change Band is the next chapter in our story. Now people everywhere can witness first hand the transformational power of music and love that comes from the Playing For Change Band. Four years ago while walking down the street in Santa Monica, CA the Playing For Change crew heard Roger Ridley singing “Stand By Me” from a block away. His voice, soul and passion set us on a journey around the world to add other musicians to his performance.
This song transformed Playing For Change from a small group of individuals into a global movement for peace and understanding. |
