FEBRUARY

February 10 at 8pm
Harry Manx

Academy Theatre, 2 Lindsay Street South
www.academytheatre.ca

Harry Manx speaks to the soul with his calm spirituality and distinctive sound. Dubbed the essential link between the music of East and West, he is a master of the musical short story that seamlessly weds the tradition of the 'earthly' American Blues with the depth of classical 'heavenly' Indian ragas. From an early age, Manx was on the road ... as a sound man in the blues clubs of Toronto, busking on street corners from Brazil to Japan, studying meditation and music in India ... and all these influences shine through in his music. A dedicated performer, Manx has put out nine CDs in eight years, garnered a serious stack of awards and toured extensively across Canada, the US, Australia and Europe, playing in soft seat theatres, prestigious festivals and first-rate blues clubs. A modern day troubadour, Manx sings with an intimate, quiet warmth that makes his shows mesmerizing. The subtle interplay between the haunting notes of the sitar and the gentle, rhythmic groove of the blues gives his songs a beautiful sensuality that defies comparison.

Ron James .... LIVE!

Academy Theatre, 2 Lindsay Street South
www.academytheatre.ca

With an unprecedented five television comedy specials under his belt and season three of his CBC-TV comedy series airing Fridays at 8pm, Canada’s busiest and best-selling comedian RON JAMES takes to the road with a new “gut-bustingly, knee-slappingly funny” 90-minute rant. From MAC-savvy twenty-something tattooed techno-geeks to the mid-life angst of whiny, aging Baby Boomers, James weaves a verbal tapestry of trademark laughs that audiences and media alike have endorsed from coast to coast.

The Stampeders

Academy Theatre, 2 Lindsay Street South
www.academytheatre.ca

They're on their way, to the city lights' ... and, THE predominant Canadian Rock 'n' Roll band of the 1970s are bringing along all their classic hits: Wild Eyes, Carry Me, Oh My Lady, Devil You, Monday Morning Choo Choo, Minstrel Gypsy, Hit the Road Jack and, of course, the quintessential Canadian – and Hall of Fame – song, Sweet City Woman. A veritable soundtrack to a whole generation that will 'carry you home ' ... maybe not to Birmingham ... but back to a time of tie-dyed shirts and elevator shoes, 15¢ coffee and homemade apple pie, dating and dreaming ... By the time The Stampeders get to the first chorus of the first song, everyone will be singing along. 'So you better catch a noon train, better get there for a rock 'n' rolling good time!
