Wilberforce Agricultural Fair

Well, we're back at it again. The Wilberforce Agricultural Fair is entering its 28th year and we're proud to say that our labour of love is still going strong. We're family oriented, fun, and always friendly. The fair kicks off on Friday night at 6:00 outside where you'll be thrilled as beauty, brawn, and skill teams up in the Pony Pull. Gates open at 9 am Saturday with admission $5 for adults and free admission for youth under 16 as well as a Passport to the Fair, which, upon completion, guarantees a treat.

The kids can get wet and wild at the minnow races and then dry their hands off, petting the rabbits of the Dalrymple Rabbitry or visiting the goat show contestants just a few steps away. Somewhere between building a scarecrow that looks like their big sister and eating an ice cream cone or two, they might try their hand at the colouring contest, rope making, or get their face painted. They can also build a birdhouse, or simply work off all that excess energy at the Nail Driving Contest. And there's more.

We've invited the vendors from the Tory Hill Market to join us this year. They'll offer fair-goers quality produce, baking, crafts, as well as add to local flavour of the biggest little fair around. In keeping with our historical flavour, we've got the Name That Tool challenge, a blacksmithing demonstration from the Beverly Forge, an antique farm machinery display, and the Domestic Science Competitions, where ribbons and prize money are awarded to the finest examples of culinary arts, canned products, garden produce, floral displays, crafts, photography and much more. Then there's the old-time excitement of a full-fledged horse draw, where powerful horses pull a stone boat down a dusty track for first place honours. Find a smile or two at the Children's Dog Show. If highland dancing is more your style, have a seat and enjoy a performance by the Mansfield School of Highland Dance. Or, if that's too energetic, there's always the Tai Chi demonstration. This year we've got the Baby Anything Show for youth under 16. From baby carrot to baby cow, if it qualifies as a baby in their eyes, we'll judge it. They are only limited by their imagination. You won't go hungry here either. We've got corn on the cob, and other food on the grill. Or, after the fair, stay for the roast beef dinner held at the Lloyd Watson Centre. It's not the biggest fair in the land, but it's action-packed and family friendly. So come visit us. We'll all be glad you did. For more info, see our website at WilberforceFair.com
